What happens if light travels from a low refractive index to a higher refractive index?

What happens if light travels from a low refractive index to a higher refractive index? I am asking because an Abbe refractometer allows a user to measure the refractive index of a material very accurately, but the refracting prism is designed to be used with samples having a refractive index smaller than that of the refracting prism. If it had a bigger refractive index would that cause light to bend away from the normal?

Yes.
That is, if light travels from higher to lower refractive index medium, it bends away from the Normal.
