But since I always use my diagonal when I am observing shouldn't I use it when I am collimating my scope? Thanks.
if your diagonal is a good one and accurately square, it shouldn't make any difference. but since that's how you observe, you should collimate with the optical system as close to how you actually use it. with that said, scts hold collimation well. you shouldn't need to do this very often.
