Not sure if chicken is safe to eat!!?

I bought a duel package of small young chickens on thursday of last week i put one in the fridge and one in the freezer. It is now tuesday and I went to the fridge and seen the chicken so I took it out of the fridge and opened it, it didnt have a rancid smell but it did have a smell to it, I dont know what to do, this is my first whole chicken and i was going to roast it in the oven. What do I do now? and when i inserted the probe thermometer it said the internal temp was 55 but it did sit on the counter for a few minutes too.

That seems pretty warm. I usually abide by the "if you're not sure, don't eat it" rule.
