Digital scale problem.?

I have this digital scale with max weight reading of 500 grams, and 0.1 gram accuracy. I was testing some herbs on it, and if I put piece by piece it wont even read 0.1 gram. I ended up putting ALL of it little piece by a time and it would stay at 0.0g. but then, if I put all of it at the same time, then it would work and change to 1.0g. anyone know what is wrong?

make sure you have the scale zeroed out when you start if it had a container that you put what ever your weighing on it and zeroed so that it doesnt way the container also then it will take more weight to get it to register
