Is there any reason to believe that life originated more than once on this planet?

Through the years, it has seemed to me that there was pretty much universal consensus that there was only one instance of life evolving, which led to all life on the planet today. But I've wondered if there has been any evidence otherwise. I'm thinking about those organisms that live near thermal vents on the ocean floor. Is their DNA suggestive of one origin of life or of a second origin, independent of the first?

first, the reason, the same as why most people believe anything. Because they want to. Which leads to a tendency to look for evidence to confirm, and ignore any to the contrary.

As to evidence, none that I know of.

The statical probability of life evolving once, is so low that it gives consideration to 3 alternatives;

2 Life came here from another place.

All are hard to accept for the scientific mind.

So the answer is, it is not completely impossible, but extremely improbable.
