what does a stereoscopic microscope do to the orientation of an image, relative to the specimen?

With a compound microscope the image always moves in the opposite to the movement of the specimen i.e. move the specimen up and it appears to move down, move the specimen to the and left the image movers to the right.
With a stereo microscope the movement appears to me exactly the same as the movement of the the specimen.
