What do leak detector numbers mean ?

I work for a small company who has just purchased a vacuum helium leak detector and I want to learn more about it
The operation is simple enough but, the numbers I get don’t mean anything to me in “real world” terms. Can anyone help? I can’t find any literature or standards on the subject.
I looking for a hardness type scale

Example: A latex balloon would leak at a rate of 1 x -10^? And deflate at in a week
Mylar balloon would leak at a rate of 1.0 x -10^ ? and deflate in a month
Or a light bulb will leak at rate of 1.0 x 10^ ? and reach on atmosphere pressure in 1000 years.
Or at what leak rate would 50 foot x 1” water pipe (at normal water pressure) stop leaking water
The same pipe but filled with argon gas.
What if I doubled the pressure on the gas would I double my leak rate?

I cannot understand what exactly you ask but I will try to help. First I suppose leakage can be based on volume or mass rate, maybe even pressure. So something like gram/hour or liters/years or such. Depending on the units you can calculate those thing you asked. A balloon has a volume of say 2 liters. If it deflates in 1 week to its %50 volume (not accounting the pressure in inflated balloon) in 1 week than the leakage rate is 2 * 50/100 = 1 liters per week. You can change it to the units you use than. Like 1 Liters per week = 1/7 liters per day = 1/(7*24) liters per hour = 1/ (7*24*60) liters per minute = 1/ (7*24*60*60) liters per second and that makes 1,65 * 10^-6 liters per second. the leakage is a result of diffusion if there are no pores. And diffusion depends on the materials and diffusing fluid, temperature, pressure difference, thickness ...
So argon leaks slower than air, and hydrogen diffuses faster than all. Polymers leak faster in many cases bu metals may not. It all depends on the pressure difference. If the pressure is higher on the out side of the light bulb, than air will leak inside it.
