A World For The Fat, Lazy and Socially Isolated

Really, what has our world come to? In a world where one values old "Benji" on paper over real people, or a computer screen over human contact, where do we stand? Just remember the good old days. You used to go outside and watch Freddy from around the corner eat a worm for 50 cents. Then a decade later, the television came around. Meals consisted of fold-out single tables and bugs bunny. Then there was mom bugging you to do your homework, but there's always later, right?

Yes, it's not very hard to see we are slowly isolating ourselves from ourselves. How often do you see little children asking their mothers for something to eat, only to be shooed away from a mother busily e-mailing away on her blackberry? How often do you see a man put on 30 or more pounds because all he does is surf the web? Don't even get me started on how socially disconected internet dating really is.

The consequences of our technological lives are starting to increase rapidly. We can see this by the foggy haze we see out the windsheild of our cars on a sunny day in the city. Pollution is something people might talk about, but not really see untill it begins to affect one personally. People choose not to see what causes slight discomfert to them untill it begins to sting. The reality of the issue is that, when one credited scientist publishes an article about climate change being completely natural among the thousands that prove otherwise, people change their opinion on the issue almost instantaneously. They begin to be blinded by the one article that gives them a reason not to change.

Blinded we are by the many people who choose to try and sabatoge our opinions to benefit themselves. Car companies, for example, feed you small cars that promise to help you reduce your carbon footprint. Reality is, gas is gas. Until they decide to create a gas free car - which, by the way is completely possible - will it really make a positive impact on the global citizen, and save us from the terrible effect man has created upon this world we call home.

It takes time to reverse the side-effects of the intelligence of man. It takes soil 1000 years to grow, many years for coral reefs to re-cooperate. If everyone works together - sounds cliché, but true- we can save our souls from the real depression and agony to come. Trust yourself. Take a break from the Blackberry. Meet real people. Talk to them face to face, and all the magic of the common "human relationship" will return.

This is not an article about forcing opinions on anyone. Freedom of speech and thought is something one must learn to develop prevent the contageous pandemic of "human robotism". Do not believe all you hear in the media, on TV, or by someone famous like Al Gore (although, I am not saying everything is untrue). Look it up for yourself. Find the facts. Draw your opinion from that, and from common sense people had when computers weren't around to dictate our lives. Help our world before it turns into a Real-D version of Wall-E.

When to use Database Isolation levels vs Locking?

I know isolation levels (uncommitted, committed, repeatable read, serializable) set the defaults for isolations. But there are also ways to use locks (like row-locks, table locks etc). My question is very simple (am new to databases)..1).when do we use the locks vs isolation levels?
2) Do locks override the default isolation level ? - say transaction isolation level is serializable and i want to do a row lock?
