Mitsubishi to Launch 1st Passenger Jet, 640nm 150mw Cw Laser Diode

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will make one step forward to achieve its goal of launching the first passenger jet built in Japan when it exposes a carbon copy of the cabin at the upcoming Paris Air Show.

According to a company official, the full-size copy will be utilized to evaluate the demand for the small-size passenger aircraft before the huge Japanese manufacturer decides whether to turn the project into a full commercial venture or not.

At least 70 to 90 people can be accommodated by the jet which is being developed in lieu of the government's project that is the New Energy and Industrial Development Organization. The official further said that the Mitsubishi Regional Jet would be the first ever Japanese jet.

The YS-11 is Japan’s turboprop plane which was the only Japanese airliner produced since World War II. In 1974, its production stopped. And the official said that the Mitsubishi plane would consume almost 20 per cent less fuel than existing jets of similar size.

He added that Mitsubishi plans to acquire engines from these three options: General Electric, Rolls Royce, or Pratt and Whitney. That is if the project goes ahead. The jet plane will measure 35.8 meters or 117.5 feet in length, and 10.0 meters or 32.8 feet in height. It will come with a wingspan that will measure 30.9 meters or 101.4 feet.

The company’s target is to minimize the negative environmental impacts of the plane as well as to increase seating comfort through the use of new design methods and materials. Mitsubishi will also utilize technologies that would lessen fuel consumption and operating costs, and will need another year to decide whether to commercialize the plane or not.

The official said that airliner might be commercially available by 2012, if the company decides to proceed.

Another car maker, Honda, is currently developing a light business jet. Through a joint venture with US-based Piper Aircraft, the company targets to start production somewhere in the United States in 2010.

Red laser diode has the capability to express the deep reds at 640nm. Furthermore, it can also produce an output of 150mW – considered as the highest output in the world for a 5.6mm diameter TO-CAN.

With a wall-plug efficiency of 23 percent, the ML520G51 is capable of producing output of 150mW within -5°C and +45°C. In effect, there is an assured lesser device power consumption and longer usage time with battery-driven mobile devices.

Where can I get a driver for a 200mW laser diode?

I have a 200mW laser diode and want to make a burning laser ,but I'm not sure if I need a driver or not.If I do,where can I get one?

It probably can be driven by a constant current source, which you should be able to build yourself.

Also note, 200mW, as someone has mentioned earlier, is a fairly high power for a Laser, even though it doesn't sound all that special. It can and WILL blind you or others even if you are exposed to the light for only a short time. If you are not aware of and familiar with the proper safety procedures dealing with such a device, I suggest you not mess with it.

Also, if it is for burning, I presume it also will not likely produce visible light, since non-visible frequencies are much better for burning applications, making it even more dangerous.
