Lighting Systems

One of the most effective ways of changing the appearance of your home, office or outdoors is to get the lighting done by installing some of the most interesting and unique lighting systems. Lighting system is a proper method of lighting that can enhance task performance or aesthetics of an area, while avoiding energy wastages. With the evolving needs of the customers the lighting systems have gone though a variety of changes in order to cater to the changing needs and to give a better and cost effective solution to all the lighting needs.

Indoor lighting is done with the help of fixtures and furnishings whereas the outdoor landscaping can contain lighting as an intrinsic component. So in both the indoor and outdoor lighting the lighting systems play a crucial role. The decision of the lighting system to be used falls with the decorator who decides for the proper ambience or the aesthetic appeal that needs to be created in the particular space. Overall the lighting systems can change the way you used to look at the space.

There are many types of lighting systems to suit different needs and specifications. Broadly the lighting systems can be classified as track lighting systems, low voltage lighting system and cable lighting system. These lighting systems are specified for different purposes and can be effectively used when installed separate or combined. The track lighting system is an alternative to conventional wired lamps and fixed recessed lighting designs and fixtures. In most of the cases the track lighting systems are based on a length of exposed electrical wiring hidden inside a plastic or aluminum track. The track lighting system is easy to install and this track can be wired directly into pre-existing circuits or plugged into wall sockets for power. Te track can be mounted to the wall or ceiling to allow a separate lamp and socket assembly that can be snapped into place anywhere along the track itself. In the track lighting system the metal plates in the socket make contact with the charged wiring in the track that in turn activates the light-bulb. One of the best uses of track lighting is when the conventional lighting is problematic. The track lighting system is commonly used to isolate a work of art. In the track lighting system several pin-spot lamps can be installed in a single track and pointed in any number of directions.

The low voltage lighting systems are energy efficient, economical and create an appealing effect. They are commonly used for landscaping and other uses. In a low voltage lighting system the main components are plug-in transformer, low voltage cable and low voltage light fixtures. In general the transformer plugs into a grounded outdoor power receptacle and reduces 110 volt current, which is a standard, to a safe 12 volts that is considered as low voltage. The low voltage cable attaches to the transformer and distributes power to the light fixtures connected along the length of the cable.

Looking at a lightbulb, how can I tell if it's a fluorescent or incandescent?

This is an off shoot of an earlier question I had . . . my apt manager is telling us that our fluorescent light bulb in our old 3 way lamp) caused a huge electrical problem in our entire wall. BUT now someone told me that this lightbult is NOT fluorescent. It's a regular 120v 100w. This person isn't here, but I need to cover my a** when the apt manager comes . . . how can I look at this light bulb and tell him this is NOT a fluorescent light bult (it's not the curly kind). Do all fl light bulbs have that transformer thing at the base??

Yes generally all screw in fluorescent compact bulbs will have a transformer at the base unless you fixture is florescent, and almost all bulbs are usually marked as to there type and energy usage. An incandescent bulb has a filament inside (a little wire inside that glows when on) and a florescent doe's not have a filament but a powder. Take your bulb around to the local hardware stores they should be able to identify it for you. Try Lowe's, Home Depot, Home Base , ACE etc And as the other person said unless there is a problem with the wiring in the home or lamp there should be no problem in using either type lamp. If the hot wire( power supply) and neutral are crossed at the receptacle are plug it can cause a problem with some fluorescent bulbs, but it won't cause a problem with incandescents this is also a safety issue and should be checked by a qualified and licensed electrician.
