What is a good quality mid-range price purse?

I dont care about the brand name, I just want something that is good quality so will last a long time because I use it every day. I am asking for this as a Christmas gift from my mom, can be in the $150-$250 range and it has to be a really large bag, I like to carry notebooks and lots of stuff. I love Liz Clairborne. I had a purse that I used for 4 years almost every day and recently I gave it away, not because it was torn or anything, just because I wanted a new one. They do have totes too. And you can buy several for that money range.
Another alternative is Kipling. They are more sporty, but loaded with organizing pockets and good hardware.
