Their formation is not fully understood, though it is known that they formed by the chemical precipitation of iron from shallow seas about 1.8-1.6 billion years ago, during the Proterozoic Eon.

Taconite is a silica-rich iron ore that is considered to be a low-grade deposit. However, the iron-rich components of such deposits can be processed to produce a concentrate that is about 65% iron, which means that some of the most important iron ore deposits around the world were derived from taconite. Taconite is mined in the United States, Canada, and China.

How can i separate silver/gold ore from the hard rock it came from?

I found silver/gold ore in hard rock i broke several thousand pounds of ore and brought it home how can i separate the precious minerals from the hard rock. thanks for the advice

The first step is to have the ore assayed to determine the gold and silver content. Then, if it's worth it, find someone who will buy your claim. Silver/gold recovery from ore is not something for the home experimenter. The ore has to be crushed very fine and then the silver and gold is extracted using a cyanide solution. This solution is then treated with zinc dust to recover the gold and silver. You can find info by searching for the Merrill Crowe process. Other processes use strong acids to dissolve the ore and electrowinning to recover the metal.
