I have been studying Shutter Speed and Aperture...I put my camera on Manual so I have FULL control over these.

Now...that being said...is there anything else I need to know besides these two settings to get ready to start taking pictures?

Yes, there is one other variable that is important;..
FILM SPEED; Generally shown as ISO..NUMBER
A good starting point is ISO 100 or 125.
This would be equivalent to the film we used to buy for general use. Remember the higher the ISO ( or film speed) the more sensitive the film.. That means you need less light to expose a decent picture. ie; higher shutter speed to stop action, or smaller aperature (F stop) to increase depth of field. ( higher number equals smaller aperature) F4.5 is a good general setting to start and shutter speed at 1/100 second will also get you started.. All of this applies to FILM AND DIGITAL cameras.. Finally, digital cameras have one more Important setting called WHITE BALANCE ,, This tells the camera the kind of light that you intend to use to snap your pictures.
Some common settings are BRIGHT SUNSHINE, CLOUDY DAY, INCANDESCENT LIGHT BULBS, and FLOURESCENT LIGHT.
This is also referred to as LIGHT TEMPERATURE.
