Sony Handy cam records sound but no video?

I have a Sony CCD-TRV318 handy cam and the screen is black when I go to record. Like I have the lens cap on it but it's not. It records sound only and has no problem playing old video back. Its hasn't been dropped and has been well kept! Is there a fix for this or is it junk now?

black is actually a good sign, because no video would be noise or blue screen. look to see if you might have turned on the high speed shutter, and step through other menu options to see if something else may be a problem, like record from video input selected for example.
