This is the old, old way of determining the value. It's going to sound funny, but all you need to do here is take the part of the centrifuge tube that is red after being spun down as a percentage of the total volume of the same. In this case you just divide 20mm/50mm x 100%, so 40%.

Oh, and though it doesn't appear in this problem, remember to subtract the part of the sample that is the buffy layer (the white blood cells) since it contains cells, but no hemo.
