How do you connect a tube light to a 12V DC battery?

Is there any way to just connect the tube light to a 12 V DC supply without having to go through any inverter circuit.
Here's the scenario: Tube + wires + battery. Can we make this work?
I tried to look this up online but all i could find was AC circuits and lots of references to LED replacement tubelights.
