How do you calculate wavelength?
I have a physics question in my homework, and I have no idea what the formula is for wavelength:
"Ultrasonic waves used for medical scanners have a frequency of 2000kHz. Calculate the wavelength of these ultrasonic waves in human tissue (the speed of ultrasound in human tissue is 1500m/s)."
I thought that perhaps the formula might just be distance = speed x time, which would make the wavelength 3,000,000,000 m. Somehow I don't think that's right!

velocity = freqeuncy x wavelength.
so wavelength = velocity / frequency
= (1500 m/s) / (2,000,000 hz) = 0.00075m = 0.75mm
For future reference. If you remember that wavelength is a lenghth (i.e. it's in meters) and the only info you have is velocity (m/s) and frequency (Hz = s^-1) then you can solve easily for this in order to get meters.
(m/s) / (s^-1) = (m/s) * (s) = meters
